Today’s packagings do far more than merely protect their contents in the best possible way so that they can be transported and stored. As the direct interface between brand manufacturers and consumers, packagings are a key tool in the marketing mix – especially in supermarkets. And package printing plays a vital role in the design of packagings, as a visual intensifier for brand messages, for ideal recognisability on the shelf, for on-pack promotions, or as track & trace solutions for product and consumer protection.
As the globally leading trade fair for the packaging sector and related processing industries, interpack has therefore organised PACK PLUS, a special exhibition devoted to the topic of package printing that will be staged at drupa, the world’s No. 1 trade fair for print and media from 3 to 16 May in Düsseldorf.
The underlying concept of the 300 square metre special show spotlights the importance of integrated package printing, illustrating this with a product example: the “D” Drink. This is presented in the centre of the stand in various primary and secondary packages designed for this purpose by the exhibitors at the special show. The participating companies include Saueressig, Huber Packaging Group and Druck Chemie. The showcased results clearly reveal how a brand or a product can be supported by the choice of materials and the printing and finishing techniques.
Circling the central space of the special show are the four fields of expertise – materials suppliers (materials, inks, consumables), package printers (support, prepress, digital printing), converters (machines, systems, value chain), and brand manufacturers (marketing, design, purchasing) – each represented by companies with expertise in that area. This provides a 360° view of package printing, which not only gives drupa visitors insights into the technologies used to produce the exhibited packages but also provides opportunities for direct and creative exchanges with the participating companies.
Visitors will find the PACK PLUS special show in hall 11. It will be open throughout the entire 14-day period of the drupa trade fair. At drupa, the topic of package printing will be highlighted not only by the range of products and services offered by exhibitors from this segment, but also at the “drupa cube” conference and network platform in hall 7a. On the morning of 4 May, the Day of Packaging, speakers from the industry will be talking on a variety of topics, including sustainable packaging concepts, the possibilities offered by digital printing, or methods to prevent counterfeiting of packaging.
