FFI: “Consumers are still buying in Germany!”

“In 2008, sales revenues per kilo of folding cartons produced fell to under 2.00 Euro for the first time. From our point of view, that is a very troubling trend,” said Dr. Michael Faller, spokesman for the Board of the German Folding Carton Manufacturers’ Association (Fachverband Faltschachtel-Industrie e.V. - FFI) when he spoke in Frankfurt/Main last Thursday.
He was, however, also able to report positive trends - despite the economic slump, the 90 member companies were able to increase their production volume by 4.6% and their sales - at 1.4 billion Euro - by as much as 6.5%. This made them ‘more successful’ than the German folding carton industry as a whole, which finished the 2008 business year with a growth in volume of 0.2%, and sales that rose by 2.1% (with industry sales of 1.9 billion Euro). That means the FFI’s share of the industry has now reached over 74%.
