Crown revamps Pret A Manger drinks cans

05/02/2010

Crown is using its Pictoris print technology for sandwich chain Pret A Manger's revamped range of sparkling fresh juice cans.
The redesigned Pret cans are designed to link the drinks to the rest of the restaurant's product offering and feature images of the firm's food-based characters such as a goldfish made from orange segments.

James Cannell, Pret's international head of creative, said packaging should be used as a tool to engage and inform its customers.

"The final result is striking and beautiful packaging that looks fantastic in our shops and is a hit with our customers," he said.

To achieve the detailed graphics on the can, Pictoris uses colour separation techniques and high-resolution printing plates and Crown said using metal also tied in with the firm's sustainability objectives as it can be recycled again and again.

Caroline Archer-Reed, Crown Bevcan Europe marketing director, said: "The sustainability benefits together with the large printable surface allowed us to create a package that promotes Pret's key messages and strengthens brand identity."
