Joachim Hennig (Institute for Design Engineering and Equipment Design (IKA)/Dresden), Alexandra Nagy (Paqart Design Studio/Budapest), Prof. Martin Topel (Squareone GmbH/Düsseldorf, University of Wuppertal) and Menno van Waardhuizen (Koeweiden Postma/Amsterdam). The jury adjudicated 148 entries submitted by 78 contestants from 17 countries, including several rounds of lively discussion and careful consideration according to the criteria of design quality, workmanship, choice of materials, degree of innovativeness, environmental friendliness, functionality, ergonomics, visualization of use, safety, brand value/branding, symbolism and independence, production and logistics aspects as well as universal design (“design for everyone”).
Jury statements
“The first-ever iF packaging award this year represents a fine enhancement for interpack. I especially appreciate the concept behind this competition, as it is international in scope, leaves much space for new ideas and even includes packaging machines. Given their high standards, I would like to see many more German packaging machine manufacturers compete for this award.”
(Prof. Dr. Joachim Hennig)
“I was positively surprised at the great range of participants and their attention to detail.”
(Karel J. Golta)
“For designers it is definitely important to know that the technological qualities of packaging also need to be communicated via a conscious design, so as to make a stronger contribution to consumer perception and appreciation.”
(Prof. Martin Topel)
“We saw many ideas, interesting new shapes, delightfully good graphic solutions and high-quality finishing of packaging materials.”
(Alexandra Nagy)
“For me it was a nice experience to be part of this jury, there was a good atmosphere with open and sharp discussion. I think we were a jury with a broad view on packaging-design, complementing each other with different viewpoints on the subject.“
(Menno van Waarthuizen)
