UPAKOVKA/UPAK ITALIA 2010: Undiminished interest in international high technology

10/11/2009

Russian trade fair for the packaging industry puts its money on quality and expertise

UPAKOVKA/UPAK ITALIA, the international trade fair for packaging machinery, packaging production and packaging material, will open its doors in the Moscow exhibition centre Krasnaja Presnja from 26 - 29 January 2010. In spite of the effects of the global financial crisis, which has also hit Russia and neighbouring regions, the signs for the future indicate cautious optimism.

For instance, experts predict that Russia will experience economic growth in the years ahead, making it one of the most important consumer markets worldwide. The Russian population is striving for a higher standard of living and the Food Processing and Packaging Machinery Association within the VDMA emphasised the great interest and the unrelenting demand for high quality equipment from the West, even if some investments have had to be postponed for the time being. Measures put in place by the Russian government have also been helpful in bringing about an upturn, for example, the abolishment of the import sales tax on a total of 200 types of machinery and equipment, including many used in the packaging industry, agreed this summer. The beneficiaries of this tax relief, which can account for as much as 18 percent of the price of a machine*, include manufacturers of injection moulding machines, vacuum forming machines and sleeve wrapping machines.

However, Moscow’s measure to combat the crisis by promoting high technology also gives a boost to domestic consumer goods, in particular in the food & beverage industry. This sector needs machines and plants from abroad, which give an effective boost to productivity and ensure quality in the long term, and West European suppliers remain highly sought-after in Russia.

These innovative products and services will be presented at the 18th UPAKOVKA/UPAK ITALIA 2010, which will once again feature a large number of international exhibitors next year. Germany, Italy and France will be represented as official group contributors.

Moscow 2010: Interesting synergies in the packaging and plastics industry

Once again, 2010 will see UPAKOVKA/UPAK ITALIA take place in parallel with INTERPLASTICA Moscow, the International Trade Fair for Plastics and Rubber, resulting in profitable sector synergies for visitors and exhibitors alike. Moscow’s exhibition centre Krasnaja Presnja is also praised for being very modern, providing every service and facility that you could wish for as well as having a direct metro connection. The four-day event is organised by Messe Düsseldorf GmbH, which hosts the world’s largest and most important industry event in the sector, interpack, on the Rhine every three years, in cooperation with its subsidiary OOO Messe Düsseldorf Moscow as well as its Italian partner Centrexpo. 2010 will also once again see an exciting and high class supporting programme – ranging from forums and discussions held in cooperation with universities, to round table debates and technical seminars for industrial visitors.

At the last event, held in January 2009 in the middle of the economic crisis, the 900 exhibitors, who rented a net area of 19,000 square metres, were already impressed by the high level of qualification and far-reaching decision-making powers of the 20,500 visitors who attended UPAKOVKA/UPAK ITALIA und INTERPLASTICA. Many international companies were very pleased about the interesting technical discussions they had at their booths, the large number of new contacts and good post-fair business. Pleasantly surprised by how it had surpassed their expectations, they emphasised that they would definitely be returning in 2010. Well-known market leaders such as Krones, Chocotech, Bosch Packaging and – for the first time – Schubert have already registered for UPAKOVKA/UPAK ITALIA. OMET SRL, RE SPA Controlli Industriali, SACMI, and OMAG SRL will be attending from Italy, and the Russian exhibitors who have already confirmed their involvement include ECI Limited, Ukam Group, Souzpack, Russkaia Trapeza and Bestrom.
