Russia, the attractive growth market with good chances for manufacturers of packaging machines
Russia is one of the most attractive growth markets – also for the manufacturers of packging machines. Experts of the VDMA (Association of machine manufacturers in Germany) predict this positive trend to continue on the Russian market for the years to come.
According to an assessment of the "Euromonitor" market research institute Russia is the ninth biggest market in the world for ready-packed food and the market volume is expected to reach 82 billion Euros in 2011. Demand for higher quality products and the packaging that goes with it rises steadily – and particularly so in the sectors for food and beverages, sweets and bakery products as well as cosmetics and non-food consumer items.

Russia's economic situation in 2007 was better than expected at the start of the year. The rise of real gross domestic product (GDP) is estimated at 7.3 percent.
This eastern European country may count on a growth rate of five to six percent for the coming years. Imports are expected to rise at double digit rates while exports are expected to stagnate or even decline. Since the mid-eighties Russia is following a reformist course. In the meantime the Russian foodstuff industry, and foreign investors too, are putting a lot of money in the expansion of their production capacity since demand for modern, innovative packaging and packaging machines is growing. In 2006, Russian imports for packaging machines totalled 623 million Euros and with that, were 28 percent higher than in the preceding year. With this year's rapid growth of the Russian foodstuff industry, the demand for packaging machines has climbed, too.

From 29 January to 01 February 2008, the Russian packaging industry meets again at the UPAKOVKA [Packaging Trade Exhibition] 2008 in Moscow. At this leading Russian exhibition for packaging technology, 300 international exhibitors will present their machines and equipment for the manufacture of packaging machines, sweets producing machines as well as packaging, related material and logistics.
The UPAKOVKA/UPAK ITALIA is taking place in Moscow for the sixteenth time running and is organized by the Messe Duesseldorf together with their Russian subsidiary "OOO Messe Düsseldorf Moskau" in co-operation with the Italian organizer Centrexpo.
