Augmented Reality
While developments in Augmented Reality may be fairly new they have long since stopped fascinating just researchers and students. The functionality is quick and easy to describe: by registering a real object the camera ascertains its current position while the software operating in the background then generates a virtual depiction of Augmented Reality in the form of other objects not existing in reality. The often high costs for the investment or provision of suitable technologies and platforms are again relativized in many cases by time and in others by cost savings.

The international German Packaging Award 2012
The German Packaging Award, which is under the patronage of the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology, is updating its participation categories and extending its service spectrum. The German Packaging Award is an international performance-based competition covering all possible materials and is directed at all members within the packaging sector. Among the winners from the last few years are developers and manufacturers of packaging materials, packaging means and machines, design, advertising and consulting agencies, brand-article suppliers and retail enterprises.

Searching for an employer - Packaging Technology students are spoilt for choice
Graduates of packaging technology programmes are in short supply. For years there have not been enough specialists in industry and commerce, which is why the competition for new employees is strong. Companies plan to attract new employees by offering presentations, excursions, workshops, competitions, bursaries and involving alumni. “We usually get hired,“ summarises Shahin Rastizadeh, a student of process technology with a major in paper and packaging at the University of Munich. Apart from the main printing and media exhibition, the drupa 2012 in Düsseldorf, Germany is also featuring a special exhibition PackPlus concerning package printing innovations. Further, on may 4th, the "Day of Packaging" is taking place.
