Oxo/Biodegradable Films

Oxo/Biodegradable Films
Oxo-Bio/Biodegradable Films Elif is proud to produce oxo-biodegradable and biodegradable plastic packaging products representing our awareness and responsibility to the Environment.

Biodegradable materials are plastic films whose raw material is vegetative such as corn starch, tapioca products or sugarcanes. These thermoplastic aliphatic materials derived from renewable resources are called Poly(lactic acid) or polylactide shortly named as PLA and can biodegrade under certain conditions like presence of oxygen, etc. These materials comply with degradation conditions determined by EN 13432 Standard meaning a degradation in less than 6 months and can be adjusted according to specific requirements.

Oxo-biodegradable materials are material whose raw material is petroleum but is converted to biodegradable material with additives. Oxo-biodegradable materials are obtained by adding an additive in the plastic materials. The decomposition in nature is two phased. The first phase is decomposition with oxygen. Based on the proportion of additives used, the oxygen in the environment begins to break down the chemical composition of the plastic. With heat, light, and humidity, this process is expedited. It breaks down into smaller pieces. After this step, micro-organisms step in. This is the 2nd phase of the process where bacterias and micro-organisms in the soil eat away the plastic and destroy it.
