Wine and alcoholics (Oxygen barriers, UV barrier) preforms and bottles

Wine has predominantly been packed in one-way glass bottles since the 17th century. Recently, we have seen some changes in this market and also in consumer habits and preferences. The packaging needs to be lighter, to be more ecological, to have greater differentiation in the design, and so on. As innovative products as screw caps and synthetic corks have found their way into the wine market, RESILUX also wants to introduce the new PET bottle for wine applications.

750 ml wine bottle in glass weighs between 480 gr and 620 gr. With PET, we are able to offer weight-reduction of up to 90%, as the standard wine bottle weighs 48 gr. But as wine is also an oxygen- sensitive product, RESILUX has developed the ResiOx® product range, which can guarantee a longer shelf-life of the wine in PET. The ResiOx® range has three variations depending on customer need:

  1. ResiOx® 3 gives you a minimum of three months of oxygen protection
  2. ResiOx® 6 gives you a minimum of six months of  oxygen protection
  3. ResiOx® 9 gives you a minimum of nine months of oxygen protection
Besides the wine's sensitivity to oxygen, we also know that light can affect the wine's flavour over a period of time. RESILUX can also offer a solution for this phenomenon with wine-specific colour stabilisers and UV blockers.

Dairy preforms and bottles (light and/or oxygen barrier)

At RESILUX, we offer the complete range to our customers so that we can provide product-specific solutions based on both passive and active barrier technology both in blend as in multilayer constructions. All technology is incorporated in the preform, so no additional measurements on the blowing and/or filling proces are needed.

The ResiOx® range has three variations depending customer need:

ResiOx® 3: typically 1 ppm oxygen ingress for 3 months
ResiOx® 6: typically 1 ppm oxygen ingress for 6 months
ResiOx® 9: typically 1 ppm oxygen ingress for 9 months

CO2 lights the spark in sparkling products. It not only enhances the experience, but also gives taste to the product and feeling to the packaging.

Hotfill prefoms and bottles

Hotfill Preforms & Bottles

Many different food and drink products need to be hot-filled to ensure a long shelf-life in their packaging (glass or PET). RESILUX has a long experience with hotfill PET preforms and bottles. Until now, we have focused on beverages and sauces (juice, ice-tea, flavoured water, sport drinks, ketchup, etc..) which are filled up to a temperature of 85°C.

As PET is a thermoplastic polymer with a glass-transition temperature of approximately 70°C, it is important to use specific techniques to avoid deformations during and after filling and storage. These techniques include: special hotfill resin, special finish design, special bottle design, dedicated blowing machines and moulds. In addition to these specific techniques, RESILUX is working with world-leading producers of hotfill caps and hot-filling blowing, filling and cooling machines in order to offer our customers state-of-the-art preforms and bottles for their hotfill application. Thanks to this co-operation, we are not only producing the classic bottles with vacuum panels but also panel-free and lightweight nitrogen hot-fillable PET bottles.

Thanks to years of experience and many references Resilux can offer customers technical support on the whole packaging scope of their hotfill project.

If longer shelf-life of the hot filled product is requested, RESILUX offers various barrier solutions such as active scavengers, UV blockers, etc…

Tunnel Pasteurization preforms and bottles

Tunnel pasteurization for PET bottles is challenging. The temperature of the PET bottles filled with often carbonated drinks will lead to a tremendous pressure. Together with temperatures up to 65°C this can potentially lead to:

Loss of bottle shape, embossing and brand recognition
Loss of packaging integrity
Unstable bottles
Loss of CO2
Deformation of thread
Leakage

Refill

Although there is general decline in refilling in most parts of the world, RESILUX remains a strong name in this field. Beverage companies bring refillable PET bottles, which are temporally stored at retailers, back to their plants and they deliver new products to the retail store. In the refilling plant, the bottles are washed inside and outside at aporx. 60°C for 15 minutes. These bottles pass a sniffer and a X-ray check, which can make sure that the bottles are clean and intact. If any bottles are scuffed too much or too damaged, they are then sorted out of the process. Because of this cleaning process at a higher temperature, these PET bottles are specially designed, produced with special PET resins and blown via a special blowing process. Usually the refillable PET bottle is refilled approximately 20 times (the average rate of re-use is 3.3 times a year). Although a refillable container initially costs the bottler more than its one-way counterpart, the cost-per-filling of the refillable container is less.
