A partnership between Innovia Films and a Dutch company has resulted in a bio based packaging solution for organic products. Innovia Films has been working with Bio4Pack to help them package products for their client, DO-IT (Dutch Organic International Trade).
The laminate structure, which has been developed, BTI 43, uses Innovia Films’ compostable cellulose NatureFlex™ film to provide barrier, making it suitable for a wide range of ‘dry’ and ‘moist’ applications such as pasta, cereals, cheese and meat.
Patrick Gerritsen from Bio4Pack enthused, “This development is the first of many using Innovia Films’ NatureFlex™. We liked recommending and using NatureFlex™ in this application because it fits perfectly not only with the ethos of DO-IT, but also because of the barrier properties it can bring to a laminate pack structure.”
Bio4Pack, part of the Sylvaphane group of companies, has over 10 years’ experience in developing sustainable and compostable packaging. With its sister company, Euroflex, it is a perfect one stop shop to source film, laminate, extrude and convert.
Dik Goorhuis, Chief Commercial Officer of DO-IT explained, “As a company working only in the organic products’ arena, the fact that NatureFlex™ is compostable, from renewable resources and can open up many packaging possibilities to us, such as extending shelf-life is very exciting indeed.”
Andy Sweetman, Innovia Films’ Marketing Manager, Packaging & Sustainability said, “Our NatureFlex™ films are increasingly being used in bio-laminate packaging constructions such as BTI 43 to provide the necessary barrier. The Bio4Pack/Innovia Films partnership is one of several that we are developing across the globe with key industry players to ensure we can meet demand for innovative, bespoke bio based packaging solutions.”
