Freaky cups for yummy summer shakes

With an extra-big portion of whipped cream and crumbles on top, milk shakes are also sure to spread a holiday feel during lunch breaks in the city - especially when served in such flamboyant cups! We all have those classic shake cups on our minds: printed and coated carton with a plastic lid and straw, in pure white with a logo or the more modern version in clear plastic. But designers have shown us: there are also far more versatile options possible.

From freaky ...

Fresh brain, Nir-Vana, Red-Citrus, Choko Gangster, Punk Blue or Frozen Mind are the names of these “fun buddies” some of which are vaguely reminiscent of the Adams Family. Russian designer Rustam Usmanov selected six different characters for the milk-shake cup collection “Shake My Head Milkshakes” in the sizes S, M, L. Each one of them is printed on paper and then stuck on the shake cup.

This turns the otherwise boring, classic plastic cup with lid into an absolute eye-catcher with built-in fun factor. As a gimmick, the ears of the colourful heads can even be folded out thanks to a special perforation and are therefore guaranteed to bring a smile to faces young and old. In terms of themes there are no limits to this product idea – coffee or ice cream producers just have to grab it and take their fresh designs to the market.

Whoever prepares their shakes themselves but does not want to forego that “to-go” flair, can confidently turn to coffee chain Starbucks. The range includes the classic shake and/or ice tea cups that customers know from the outlets. Here, however, it consists of double-wall rigid plastics and can therefore be re-used. The air layer between the two walls provides insulation keeping the drink cool for longer – which is why this cup is called Cold Cup.

Those not fond of the transparent design can go for the Cold Cup Tumbler. In terms of structure this resembles the classic Cold Cup but is made of stainless steel and comes in various colours and designs.
