FCO Group Unveils Recyclable Packaging with 30% Plant-Based Content and High-Barrier Performance

MDO-PE–based technology combines metallization and coating to replace multi-material structures without compromising performance.

FCO Group announces the development of a next-generation mono-material polyethylene (PE) packaging solution designed to deliver high-barrier performance while enabling recyclability within the PE stream. The innovation will be showcased at Interzoo 2026, taking place in Nuremberg, Germany, in May 2026.

The structure is based on advanced MDO-PE technology, combined with functional barrier coating and vacuum metallization, resulting in a high-performance material capable of achieving low oxygen and moisture transmission rates (OTR/WVTR), along with effective light and grease barrier. The solution also provides strong seal integrity and is suitable for applications involving products with elevated fat content.

•OTR < 0.065 cc/100 in²·day (73.4°F, 0% RH)

•WVTR < 0.161 g/100 in²·day (100.4°F, 90% RH)

(depending on film thickness)

These performance levels make the solution suitable for demanding applications such as dry and fatty pet food products.
