SAPAL SA strengthens its position in the processed cheese segment through the strategic acquisition of SMP*.

As part of its growth strategy, SAPAL SA is pleased to announce the acquisition of SMP*, a French company specializing in food packaging. This transaction represents a major milestone in the development of our activities dedicated to processed cheese, a rapidly growing market segment.

SMP*, whose team consists of highly skilled professionals from a major French cheese group, brings to SAPAL SA advanced technical expertise in engineering and maintenance, as well as recognized know-how in the design of customized packaging machines for the cheese industry. Agility, responsiveness and operational excellence make SMP* a partner of choice to enrich our offering and accelerate innovation.

Through this acquisition, SAPAL SA significantly expands its portfolio of high-performance machines capable of meeting a wide range of market requirements: complete lines for triangular, square or rectangular processed cheese portions, covering speeds from 100 to 600 portions per minute, as well as slice packaging systems ranging from 500 to 2,000 slices per minute. In addition, SMP* will continue to offer its customers expertise in the maintenance and upgrading of packaging and wrapping machines.

With 120 years of experience in the cheese industry, SAPAL SA is celebrating a milestone anniversary this year and continues to establish itself as a leading independent player.

Our customers – cheese manufacturers and dairy processors – will now benefit from an expanded product range, enhanced local service and new technologies designed to improve their productivity.

Dietmar Gundel, President of SAPAL SA, states:

“We are very pleased to welcome the SMP* team into the Sapal family. SMP* has extensive experience in maintenance and retrofitting, as well as in the development of new packaging machines, always with the objective of minimizing machine operating and maintenance costs.”

Jean-Paul Chevaux, founder of SMP*, adds:

“Sapal is one of the leading manufacturers of packaging and conditioning solutions for processed cheese. As a member of the Sapal Group, we are able to market our innovative machines and maintenance expertise worldwide. Sapal and SMP* are already working on a new generation of packaging and conditioning machines, which will be presented at the Interpack trade fair in May 2026.”

SAPAL SA does not merely follow industry developments – it shapes them.
