Pharmaceutical Trend in 2019: New Impulses through Artificial Intelligence
2019 has many new requirements and questions in store for the pharmaceutical industry and related packaging and process industries: how can new and stricter state regulations for pharmaceutical packaging be implemented more effectively? How will drug administration become safer for patients and provide more information? All of these questions can already be answered by packaging in a targeted manner. Things are getting really exiting though when Artificial Intelligence comes into play.
The pharmaceutical industry is taking the first step placing AI deliberately on its agenda. With the help of Artificial Intelligence better drugs and therapies can be developed. Robotic Process Automation, known as bots, can bring down development costs considerably, design more effective processes and make forecasts more precise. As a result, opportunities are higher for the packaging industry as well. Machine learning counts just as much here as do data capture and Internet security – they are all part of the mega trend “Internet of Things”.
Big Data and machine learning promote system communication and automation abilities. Plants equipped with artificial intelligence are capable of finding out themselves whether and when a machine will probably fail or requires maintenance and can therefore react accordingly. This can avoid unnecessary maintenance costs, cut energy costs and improve user security. Additionally, sensors can analyse, capture and store such data as filling gauges, temperatures or aid humidity in real time.
Cyber security is one of the major challenges that the next few years will bring. Complex algorithms for Artificial Intelligence are designed to help the continuous improvement of IT systems for software and hardware security.
India and China: Biggest Growth Markets
While the global market value of pharmaceutical packaging amounted to some US$ 6.2 billion in 2018, it is expected to grow at 7.4% reaching US$ 8.9 billion by 2023. Although India and China are considered the biggest growth markets, almost 60% of demand for drug packaging is accounted for by developed nations such as Canada, Japan and Western Europe. And no country will challenge the USA as being the biggest market for pharmaceutical packaging.
