Packing Pastry for Generation Y
More snack bags for millennials
According to current research results from international market research company Euromonitor, some 25% of the millennials born between 1980 and 2000 take to snacks between meals at least four times a day. The content is expected to be healthy and its packaging fit for out-of-home consumption. The designers in charge have set themselves the task of satisfying this demand:

Crumble and grease—free, please!
Only just about a quarter of all products shopped at bakeries really end up in the home to be consumed. Which is why you can even find filled rolls or dough balls in practical bag portions these days. The packaging formats are expected to guarantee consumption without greasy fingers and protect pastries regardless of whether they are hot, flat or fragile. Good examples are bags with especially big windows that give shoppers optimal “vistas” of the product. Add to this two-layer thermal bags made of grease and moisture-repellent materials. Self-adhesive closures guarantee safe portability and thanks to integral tear perforations even drivers can pick products from the bag without a risk in a traffic jam or at the traffic lights. For all those who still have their pieces of cake wrapped to enjoy at their coffee table at home, the standard option will now be cardboard boxes. This saves time versus the conventional paper trays wrapped with paper from a reel.

Healthy cookies – handy packaging
The cooperation of wafer factory Waffelfabrik Hans Freitag from Verden in Germany with wellness magazine “Fit for Fun” and Lübeck-based packaging producer Sonoco has produced a re-closable 150 gram combi can with freshness and aroma guarantee. It provides optimum product protection for healthy baked items such as muesli cookies or sugar-free pieces of cake. The packaging consists of a lightweight aluminium laminate inside and a membrane closure and boasts optimum barrier properties. Thanks to the practical slip lid the combi can can be opened and closed any number of times: ideal for single-serving consumption. On top of this, the can with its all-round, customisable label is especially attention-grabbing at the POS. Furthermore, the customer-specific design is so inexpensive that packaging like this is even suitable for small-run pastry campaigns over a short period.

WorldStar for 2-in-1 cookie packaging system
Recently Bosch received a WorldStar Award 2016 for its two-in-one biscuit packaging system. The independent jury of the World Packaging Organisation thought the cookie packaging machine from this German all-round company was particularly innovative. This machine is capable of switching between various packaging types with the same machine components and without any downtime. As a result, all customary sizes and pastry types can be flexibly produced with the greatest efficiency.
