Nothing like a nice cuppa
Tea packaging that gets noticed
During the cold, dark season – which has now officially started in the northern hemisphere – hot drinks are essential for anyone wanting to get warm. There’s nothing like a cup of tea while relaxing on a sofa or in front of a roaring fireplace with a good book, or hanging out with friends over a few mince pies, or warming up after a walk through the snow. A good cuppa gives us a lovely warming feeling, and if the same can be said of the packaging design, then the fun starts the moment you put the kettle on.
Fresh ideas
The design from Metsä Board for the new T2 Mini Fruit Tea series illustrates this point very well, as it puts a spontaneous smile on our faces. The fruit tea comes in four different flavours – Banana, Watermelon, Turkish Apple and Peach – and each packaging has been designed to reflect the fruit it represents. We can make our cups of tea directly from a box that looks, for instance, like a juicy piece of watermelon or a ripe banana.

The design has been printed on the back of a Carta Solida fresh fibre carton, 250 g/m2, which is rough to the touch and therefore reminds us of the texture of the fruit. The high colour intensity and mechanical resistance of the material make the design extremely persuasive, both on the shelf, at the point of sale, and during transport. Metsä Board has already received a Merit Award for this innovative design.

For keen travellers
The flavours that are used in some teas can be quite exotic, making us feel that we want to travel the world. This is precisely the effect intended with the packaging of Adventurers Blends of William Whistle. Each package shows little Mr Whistle on one of his expeditions bringing back the most delicious ingredients for his teas.

The design, created by Agentur Horse for the tea-and-coffee company NR&A, has been inspired by the Victorian era with its adventurous explorers and discoverers – keen travellers who greatly impacted the spirit of the time. This spirit is now reflected in NR&A’s passion for flavours and new discoveries. The tea comes in folding boxes, made from slightly textured cardboard. The design features illustrations reminiscent of copperstone engravings and calligraphic inscriptions.

For romantics
Although winter is the wrong time for fresh roses, there’s no need to despair. Why not venture out and do something totally different: buy some tea instead of a bunch of roses? Pétalo Rose Tea is available in four product styles: boxes of 12 or 18 teabags, boxes of loose tea and ready-made iced tea in bottles. What’s so special about this tea is not just its fragrant flavour, but above all the packaging design in matte black and bright red, clearly inspired by real roses. The red teabags are modelled on rose petals and are even arranged in this style in the 12-teabag box, creating an impression of a real rose.
