LEAVING THINGS AS THEY ARE CAN BE VERY INNOVATIVE. The Königliche Porzellan Manufaktur Berlin (Royal Porcelain Manufactory Berlin) is one of the oldest handicraft businesses in Europe. The manufacturing and refining processes of the white gold are highly complex - and absolutely top secret! Since the manufactory's founding by the Prussian King Frederik II in the year 1763, these processes have not changed.

MADE TO STAY. That is how the company has been translating future-orientated tradition since 1763. The traditions that have been handed-down melt into and integrate with the zeitgeist and touch other worlds. Communication, exhibitions and a manufactory that is alive make this unique piece of cultural heritage an experience which continues to live on through the slow, complex and irreplaceable handicraft – side by side with industrial production processes. And in order that the pieces of art born on the banks of the Spree make it to the Yangtze and Hudson River, KPM of course needs innovative packaging strategies.

RIGHT NOW TRADITION IS VERY MODERN.

Already in 1763, the manufactory was founded by the Prussian King Friedrich II.
At KPM there are not only craftspeople at work, but also artists who turn each piece into something unique.
The glazing is also done by hand: Each piece of porcelain is submerged into a basin filled with glaze by hand.
Since 1832, the Imperial Orb has designated unique hand-painted pieces.
KPM is particularly famous for its natural flower decor. The artist determines the design of the motifs himself. This makes every piece unique.
The packaging plays an important role in the case of such valuable pieces of art. At the end of the day, they are meant to reach the customer undamaged.
The pieces of art are waiting in a row to make the homes of the new owners more beautiful.
Ever since KPM was founded, renowned artists and designers keep delighting with new designs for the "white gold".
Since it was founded, the manufactory's repertoire of porcelain pieces is growing constantly. It currently consists of 160,000 individual design templates.
The much sought after pieces of art pass through many work steps (e.g. the furnace) before they are sent to all the corners of the globe.
Also with the plastering of the figures, the highest amount of precision is called for.
In addition to their creativity, the artists need a real steady hand: The decors are created by way of freehand painting.
In countless hours, the different motifs are painted on each piece of porcelain by hand.
Also porcelain figures are created at KPM. Often as a custom-made product according to individual customer requests.
Before the unique items leave the manufactory, they go through several different working steps and stringent quality controls.
Every year, 200,000 pieces of porcelain are produced in the Königlichen Porzellan Manufaktur Berlin (Royal Porcelain Manufactory Berlin).
The Königliche Porzellan Manufaktur Berlin (Royal Porcelain Manufactory Berlin) is one of the oldest handicraft businesses in Europe.
You can recognize KPM porcelain thanks to its well-known cobalt-blue sceptre that can be seen as a logo on each piece.
Plates and vases are waiting for their glaze to be refined in the furnace.
Besides private use, the works are also exhibited in renowned museums and are a part of international design collections.
