That Certain Something: Convenient Packaging
As before, packaging manufacturers focus on sustainability and safety. But consumer needs and wishes play an increasingly important role; this starts with packaging development and ends with waste disposal and/or recycling.
Slice Design, the British packaging design company, feels that this should be reflected by an impressive display, faster perceptibility and interaction with shoppers. This is achieved by means of innovative, state-of-the-art technology and artificial intelligence, to name but two tools.
What do consumers want?
Consumers pay just as much attention to sustainability as they do to handy transport solutions and counterfeit protection. In terms of product use proper the majority of shoppers wish understandable product information as well as comfortable handling: on-the-go food and beverages should be easy to open and re-seal.

One2dose Plastics producer Georg Menshen has developed a handy, multi-functional dosing cap called One2dose for bottles. The closure allows liquid detergent and granulate to be measured out exactly since only a pre-defined quantity of the contents is released automatically. Rough “guesstimates” are now a thing of the past! This is not only convenient for users but also saves money and protects ground water. One2dose bottles can be re-filled and handled single-handedly. Convenience at its best!

Balea folding box The private label range of the dm drugstore chain has been extended to include an innovative folding box solution: here Mibelle AG relied on a high-quality packaging solution by Carl Edelmann GmbH and scored a success with it right away. Half-moon shaped flaps incorporated into the consumer-friendly outer packaging for their jars of skincare creams are marked “open here” speaking an unmistakable language. Not only do shoppers now know where to pull – here the box can be opened with the lowest application of force.
Fancy Feast Duos Special packaging also targets cats or rather their owners who are prompted to buy a product based on ingenious packaging design. For its Fancy Feast Duos petfood producer Purina banks on the “sensory closure” system from packaging manufacturer Zip-Pak. As soon as the stand-up pouches are opened a pleasant sound rings out. This is to promote an interactive exchange with the consumer and to underscore the originality of the product. The petfood can be removed easily, without any tools and without spilling anything.
