German packaging machinery exports remained stable at a high level in the first half of 2026. According to the VDMA, based on data from the German Foreign Trade Statistics Database, exports reached a volume of €3.5 billion, slightly exceeding the previous year's level. This represents an increase of 0.3%.
Growth was driven primarily by European markets. Exports to the EU-27 increased significantly, while shipments to other European countries also developed positively. Strong momentum also came from Central and South Asia, supported in particular by robust demand from India. Overall, exports to East Asia remained at the previous year's level. Declining shipments to China were partly offset by strong growth in exports to Japan and the Republic of Korea.
In contrast, business in several overseas regions weakened. Exports to North America declined, as did shipments to Africa, Central and South America, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. The sharpest decreases were recorded in Central America, South America, and Southeast Asia.
Despite varying regional developments, the packaging machinery industry continues to demonstrate resilience. The sector was able to maintain its high export level during the first half of 2026 and benefited in particular from stable demand in Europe and dynamic growth in parts of Asia.
