Training to overcome the lack of skilled professionals

Next to the energy crisis, the lack of resources, problems along the supply chain and the constant issue of sustainability, it is the lack of trained professionals that continues to affect the industry. Added to this is the fact that existing staff keep being confronted with continually new machine technology and new materials. Schubert meets both challenges with an expanded training concept.

In no less than two locations, the machine manufacturer offers their customers training and further education. In Crailsheim in Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany, a location for the new training centre has recently been created in an old factory hall. On more than 1,000 square metres there is now space for training rooms with packaging machines, a large reception area, a lounge and further rooms for technical purposes.

The further development of the offered training concentrates on the needs and wishes of the customers. New formats and content were therefore developed in close cooperation with customers. Because the requirements for overseeing production, for machine operators and other professionals have continued to increase due to digitalisation and automation. Among other things, modern robot technology, change of formats, digital control and data-driven fault analyses make it necessary to offer employees re-education or further training.

At the same time, the lack of trained professionals poses great challenges to companies and makes it all the more important to provide existing staff with the best possible training. In the USA, there is therefore a trainer for educating customers on site, on location in Charlotte. All in all, the company favours a hybrid approach with both face-to-face and online training sessions.

Overall, the training concept of Schubert is modelled after the modular machine concept of the company. Training sessions focus on individual system components which can be applied to all machines by the company. The offer is complemented by digital training and videos available through the customer portal Transaction Network.

Step by step, further content is to be added to create a centralised, digital service platform. The plan is that customers will receive answers to individual questions as well as support through pre-made videos, without the barrier of language. The lack of trained professionals can not only be met by training new beginners, but also through focused further education.
