"Plastic is good!": Multivac presents machines and processes

The Multivac Group is presenting its portfolio for the food, medical goods and pharmaceutical industries in a total of four exhibition areas. "Using several fully automated packaging lines, we will be illustrating our extensive automation expertise. Here, the overarching Multivac Line Control (MLC) enables efficient, central operation of our processing and packaging lines," explains Dr Tobias Richter, CSO at Multivac. "In addition, we are also focusing on our broad portfolio of semi-automatic and automatic packaging solutions for small and medium-sized converters at Interpack. In addition, we are presenting various concepts for the production of sustainable packaging solutions as well as solutions for the digitalisation of processes and business models. With digital Multivac Smart Services, for example, we offer our customers a wide range of applications that can be used to increase machine availability, performance, quality and thus efficiency," Richter continues.

Slicer, Traysealer, Flowpacker

"Among the product innovations we will be presenting at the trade fair are the SLX 2000 high-performance slicer, which sets new standards on the market in many respects, and the TX 6 series, a new compact class of TX traysealers, which specifically helps to increase performance in the smallest of spaces thanks to its small footprint. With the W 500 and W 510, we are presenting our new flow packers, which are characterised by maximum productivity, flexibility as well as packaging and process reliability," Richter sums up.
With regard to the topics of digitalisation and sustainability, Christian Traumann, CEO of Multivac, explains: "Digitalisation creates potential, not only for new business models that increase transparency and process reliability. Digitalisation is also an enabler for intelligent and sustainable production. With its technologies, mechanical engineering can provide answers to the questions of our time, for example with regard to sustainability". With regard to plastic as a packaging material, Traumann comments: "Plastic is good. But we have to use it with sense and understanding".

Multivac Group bundles competencies

The Multivac Group is presenting its new corporate design for the first time at Interpack. This was developed with the aim of uniting Multivac as well as the mechanical engineering company Fritsch and the meat portioning supplier TVI, both of which have been part of the corporate group for several years, under the Multivac Group umbrella brand.

"Multivac is a group of individual companies and specialised business units. As a strong and reliable partner, we offer our customers comprehensive consulting expertise in their various industries," explains Richter. "Our processing and packaging solutions from a single source ensure great operating and process reliability as well as the best possible performance. By combining the broad technical and application knowledge of the different industries as well as the Multivac portfolio and engineering know-how, we manage to create tangible added value for our customers - especially in the case of fully integrated production lines. With a joint appearance under one umbrella brand, we now want to bring this more to the fore than before," says Richter.

Multivac reports a successful business year 2022

Despite negative influences due to the outbreak of the pandemic and the war in Ukraine, the Group was able to increase its sales to around €1.5 billion in 2022, an increase of 8.7%. The number of employees increased to around 7,000 worldwide.

"We started 2023 with a good order book," Traumann explains. "However, against the backdrop of rising energy and raw material prices and inflation, our customers' willingness to invest in Germany and Europe is restrained. In order to counteract a strained order intake, we will continue to rely on our broad product portfolio with innovative solutions, which is being consistently expanded, and our global sales and service network, which ensures lived customer proximity."
