With 146 million inhabitants (as of 2017) and covering an area of 17 million square kilometres, Russia is the biggest country on earth in terms of its land mass and is therefore a promising market for the packaging industry. Many supermarkets cut prices on their goods just before they reach their best-before date. Up until now, these items have been priced down manually using discount labels, but in the future this could be done automatically thanks to a pricing algorithm that automatically reduces the price on items that are due to expire soon or have expired.
