"Using packaging deliberately protects valuable resources"

Alexander Witt

For quite a while a cereal bar was the centre of attention in a study, designed to investigate how food is influenced by packaging. This led to some important conclusions about what might potentially be perfect packaging. The study was masterminded by the food packaging engineer Alexander Witt.

The young researcher has been working in the consultancy department of Pacproject since October 2015. In our interview he will be talking about perfect packaging, the SAVE FOOD initiative, compostable packaging on the market and various other subjects.

Nutritional values

New food packaging regulations in 2016

Cereal bar and nutritional values
The new presentation of details is currently still voluntary, but by the end of 2016 it will be mandatory for all EU food packaging to specify nutritional values – with the exception of alcoholic beverages. The United States, too, will soon have stricter rules, as their regulations – which date back to the 1990s – are now being revised.

Recycling champion tinplate

In 2014 precisely 93.3% of all tinplate packaging units consumed in Germany were recycled after use. These findings are the result of a recent German study. With reference to private use only, this percentage was even as high as 95.9%.

Anniversary bottles at Lufthansa

Anniversary bottles
To celebrate its 60th anniversary, Lufthansa presented Warsteiner beer bottles in a smart golden design with high-quality finely executed graphics. This special range, made from light aluminium was implemented by the Irish Ardagh Group.

SAVE FOOD initiative presents itself in Berlin

SAVE FOOD exhibition
From 15 to 24 January 2016 the SAVE FOOD Initiative will present itself at International Green Week Berlin as part of a special exhibition organised by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The motto is “ONEWORLD without Hunger is Possible”.
