HEUFT ONE: metal detection and code verification up to HEUFT standards

They will be celebrating their world premiere at interpack: the devices of the new HEUFT ONE series set new standards in terms of detection accuracy, operational reliability and price / performance ratio during an in-line quality inspection in a confined space. The first metal detector and an inspection system for markings up to HEUFT standards can be experienced live at the trade fair.

ONE for all: the new products make an affordable introduction to HEUFT cutting edge technology as particularly compact stand-alone devices which are extremely easy to integrate into packaging lines. They combine innovative detection technologies with customised hardware and software and proven procedures for a highly precise product tracking, inspection and fault rejection. Thus the compact complete solutions remove contaminated products and incorrectly marked packaging accurately; food safety has priority!

The HEUFT ONE  for detecting metal achieves maximum detection accuracy with unique evaluation procedures from the HEUFT development department: it even finds minute pieces of metal in filled food packaging reliably – almost unaffected by the product effect of saline or acidic products and the influence of metal packaging components. Even special ambient conditions such as a "metal free zone" are not necessary for the reliable operation of the compact stand-alone device.

The first HEUFT metal detector complements the portfolio of sophisticated systems, which identify all types of foreign objects, with a slim entry-level solution. It is ideal for all those who only wish to find objects made of iron, steel, aluminium or stainless steel first and want to achieve a detection and rejection reliability up to HEUFT standards.

The new HEUFT ONE  for code verification, marking and dress inspection also provides this during the high-resolution complete examination of food packaging with in-house developed colour sensor camera technology and real-time image evaluation. It detects best before and expiry dates, barcodes and 2D codes, article and serial numbers, imprints and lettering which have been incorrectly applied and are inaccurate as regards content – and that independent of their respective position. The same also applies to deviating logos as well as non-brand colouring and design elements. Proven HEUFT procedures also ensure the accurate removal of incorrectly marked products in this case. Full traceability, clear information about shelf-life and digestibility as well as an attractive appearance at the point of sale are thus always guaranteed.

The solid, extremely compact construction in accordance with the hygiene-optimised HEUFT CleanDesign also makes the new HEUFT ONE devices stand out. They are straightforward to integrate into existing packaging lines even where space is limited. The HEUFT ISI  bus ensures minimum wiring with the open, flexible assembly directly above the conveyor. Dispensing with change parts makes easy brand changes without mechanical changeovers possible and the organised user interface, which has been reduced to the essentials, ensures error-free operation. This together with continuous monitoring brings the metal detection and code verification in line with HEUFT standards.

HEUFT eXaminer II XB: new head and new heart

The top-down inspector combines pulsed X-ray technology, only available from HEUFT, with innovative image converters as the only system of its kind. Therefore the HEUFT eXaminer II XB, together with the advantages of the new device platform, achieves an unprecedented dimension in range, detection accuracy and operational reliability during the detection of foreign objects.

It is not only the new head of the HEUFT eXaminer II XB which makes it stand out from its predecessor. Its pulsating heart is now also even more powerful: the system of the new generation is based on the highly automated HEUFT SPECTRUM II device platform with the audiovisual HEUFT NaVi user guidance and is additionally equipped with full-field image converters for the first time. This makes the unique pulsed X-ray inspection for the careful detection of solid foreign objects made of glass, metal or plastic even more reliable, more precise and easier: the size of the foreign objects which can be reliably identified has been halved.

The camera and image intensifier technology used until now has been replaced by the compact image converters. These extend the sensitive detection surface with a significantly increased resolution. Even the edge areas of the extremely clear X-ray images remain free of distortions and image defects. Larger size products can therefore also be inspected continuously and with high precision.

The X-ray parameters adapted to the new full-field image converters reduce the already unequalled low radiation. In contrast to conventional scans it is emitted as X-ray flashes which only last a thousandth of a second. And only then when there is really something to be inspected. The flashing prevents motion blurs at high conveyor speeds which can impair the detection reliability. In addition it makes a static inspection possible: the product can also be precisely examined when the conveyor is not moving e.g. for internal quality assurance purposes. The multiple flash option carries out a complete check of particularly long products.

This pulsed X-ray technology, only available from HEUFT, makes the revolutionary, worldwide unique use of the compact image converters in inspection systems for the food industry possible in the first place. The high-voltage components and X-ray generators have also been optimised. The result: more compact devices with considerably more scope and flexibility when adapting the conveyor for the precise inspection of products of different heights. The generators no longer require cooling and therefore the risk of contaminating the product to be inspected by possible coolant leaks is ruled out. A special technology for the self-adjusting tightening up of the easy to replace belt and the optimised mechanical drive of the conveyor belts reduce the need for manual intervention and simplify the maintenance of the system constructed in accordance with the hygiene-optimised HEUFT CleanDesign.

The considerably increased degree of automation and computing power of the new HEUFT SPECTRUM II head with the self-explanatory HEUFT NaVi user guidance make the safe, tamper-free operation of the HEUFT eXaminer II XB simply easy. The HEUFT reflexx² real-time image processing system with teaching in capability clearly differentiates between harmless product inhomogeneities and critical foreign objects or defects. The result: a new dimension in range, detection reliability and resource efficiency during a careful top-down inspection.

HEUFT eXaminer II XAC: more performance and more precision

The HEUFT eXaminer II XAC revolutionises the X-ray based inspection of filled food containers. The new HEUFT SPECTRUM II device platform and the unprecedented combination of pulsed X-ray technology with innovative image converters make the detection of foreign objects easier and safer than ever before. The system, with its hygiene-optimised HEUFT CleanDesign, even examines oversized products continuously and with high precision.

The HEUFT SPECTRUM II, its comprehensive, highly automated device platform with audiovisual HEUFT NaVi user guidance, already ensures considerably more performance when detecting and rejecting full jars or cans of food which are contaminated with foreign objects such as glass splinters or small pieces of metal. In addition using the compact full-field image converters for the first time revolutionises the unique pulsed X-ray technology of the new HEUFT eXaminer II XAC. This increases the range, speed and precision of the inspection. Even oversized containers can therefore be examined continuously. The size of the foreign objects which can be reliably detected is halved at the same time at line outputs of up to 1,200 products per minute.

The compact new image converters replace the camera and image intensifier technology used until now. Almost square and optimally arranged they extend the sensitive detection surface with a significantly increased resolution. Even the edge areas of the extremely clear X-ray images remain free of distortions and image defects.

The X-ray parameters which have been adapted to the new image converters reduce the already unequalled low radiation during the double base inspection and the 360° sidewall inspection. In contrast to the conventional scan it is emitted as X-ray flashes which only last a thousandth of a second. And only then when there is really something to be inspected. The flashing prevents motion blurs at high conveyor speeds which can impair the detection reliability. In addition it makes a static inspection possible: the product can also be precisely examined when the conveyor is not moving e.g. for internal quality assurance purposes.

This pulsed X-ray technology, exclusively available from HEUFT, makes the revolutionary, worldwide unique use of the compact image converters in inspection systems for the food industry possible in the first place. As a result there is more scope and flexibility when adapting the conveyor for the reliable inspection of products of different heights which is also due to the optimised high-voltage components and newly constructed X-ray generators. The generators no longer require cooling and therefore the risk of contaminating the product to be inspected by possible coolant leaks is ruled out.

The HEUFT eXaminer II XAC is predestined for use in hygienically sensitive areas due to its HEUFT CleanDesign. Sloping surfaces facilitate cleaning and prevent the accumulation of stubborn dirt. Special channels and openings allow the liquids required for cleaning purposes to be drained off completely. Consequently dangerous germs and bacteria have no contact surface whatsoever.

The considerably increased degree of automation and computing power of its new HEUFT SPECTRUM II head with the self-explanatory HEUFT NaVi user guidance make the reliable operation of the HEUFT eXaminer II XAC simply easy. The HEUFT reflexx² real-time image processing system with teaching in capability clearly differentiates between harmless product inhomogeneities and critical faults. The result: a new dimension in range and detection reliability.

HEUFT FinalView II CAP: continuous all-around inspection

All-around, highly precise and simply easy: the new HEUFT FinalView II CAP  takes the in-line inspection of food container closures and their safety elements to a new level. This ensures the integrity and quality of the filled end product sustainably. Automatic brand changes and audiovisual step-by-step assistance make its use easier and generate maximum operational reliability.

Whether non-brand, canted or defective: the compact detection module based on the HEUFT SPECTRUM II simply finds all closure faults. The HEUFT FinalView II CAP even identifies thread turns of screw closures which are not pronounced enough or torn tamper evident rings with certainty. A special angle of rotation detection even carries out the detailed examination of the correct closure alignment.

The newly applied closures are inspected all-around from all sides using powerful new illumination, camera and image processing technologies. And completely without a gap: the high-resolution colour inspection of the closure wall covers 360 degrees fully. In addition the total surface of the lid is examined precisely as well as the contour of the whole closure area. Minute cracks, dangerous defects, faulty thread turns, incomplete tamper evident rings as well as non-brand colouring, designs and logos are detected just as clearly as incorrectly positioned and wrongly oriented container closures. The roll on inspection and the examination of the complete closure contour including the teach-in are achieved in one single work process. Closure areas with shape deviations or distorted displays are compensated for automatically in order to reduce the false rejection rate sustainably.

The HEUFT FinalView II CAP provides twice as many colour cameras and a resolution which is six times higher when compared to previous HEUFT solutions for the all-around inspection of closures. The reliable examination of up to 100,000 containers per hour now functions due to considerably more computing power. The maximum diameter of closures to be inspected completely has increased by a factor of 1.5. The possible height difference between the smallest and largest full bottle which can be reliably inspected has increased to 30 centimetres.

Brand and format changes can be carried out at the touch of a button. Because the 360° closure inspection is based on the new highly automated HEUFT SPECTRUM II device platform. This makes reliable operation simply easy. The self-explanatory HEUFT NaVi user guidance also supports the user with audiovisual step by step assistance.

The compact detection module can be connected to the HEUFT SPECTRUM II VX  fill management system quite easily and to other modular full container inspectors of the new generation. The result: a new level of in-line closure inspection.
