ROSEMONT, IL, USA, SEPTEMBER 28, 2016 -- In a move to drive greater electrical safety in industrial facilities, Appleton today introduced its new UPR Series plugs and switched receptacles.

Offering the ability to satisfy the most demanding electrical codes including ATEX and IECEx, UPR Series plugs and receptacles simplify specification in oil refineries, offshore rigs, and other hazardous locations. In addition, the same UPR plug employed in a hazardous location can be used safely in a standard, non-hazardous area when connected to an interlocking non-hazardous receptacle, an advantage that broadens the use of portable electrical equipment throughout a facility.
Compact, lightweight and corrosion resistant, UPR Series plugs and receptacles are ideal for connecting power to portable or stationary electrical equipment, such as industrial lighting systems, heaters, conveyors, motor generators and pumps.

Both 16 Amp and 32 Amp UPR models are constructed of rugged non-metallic polyamide for superior corrosion-resistance, and provide critical safety features like color-coding to ensure safe identification of matching voltages, mechanical interlock so that disengagement cannot occur while energized, along with a keyed design to prevent insertion of plugs into receptacles wired for a different voltage or phase configuration. Adding to operational safety is a lockable external switch that complies with IEC 60309-1, allowing the receptacle to be locked in either "on" or "off" position while giving visual confirmation of status to workers.

ROSEMONT, IL, USA, MAY 1, 2016 -- Emerson's SolaHD brand has launched its new SVL Series of DIN rail power supplies ideal for high volume, controlled environments where essential features are the sole requirement. Building on SolaHD's impressive three tier DIN Rail AC-DC power supply family, these new units are designed to deliver all the essential advantages of power quality technology -- power factor correction, overload, under-voltage and short circuit protection with visual verification -- in a compact, easy to install design.

Convection cooling reduces the temperature of internal components without the need of a fan that may serve as a failure point for the device. Further, models above 120 Watts feature active power factor correction reducing harmonic emissions that can waste energy and affect power quality.

Mounting power supplies is a challenge in smaller machinery. When space inside an enclosure is at a premium, SVL power supplies' small footprint makes them an excellent alternative to embedded open frame switchers. IP67 Rated Power Supplies Eliminate Need for Enclosures in Extreme Industrial Environments

ROSEMONT, IL, JULY 31, 2015 -- With the increasing demand for machine device control and communication over industrial Ethernet, DeviceNet, and other networks, OEMs have found that installing traditional power supplies in distributed and remote locations has become prohibitively complex and costly because of the need for protective enclosures, fans, and excess wiring. In addition, enclosures introduce another potential point of failure into the production line.

To reduce cost and complications, Emerson's SolaHD brand has launched its new IP67 SCP-X self-sealed power supplies. They mount directly on machines or as freestanding components on a production line, removing the constraints imposed by power supplies that must be housed in enclosures. Compared to power supplies housed in a separate enclosure, the IP67 SCP-X reduces total cost of ownership by as much as 54 percent.

Because the IP67 SCP-X is available in 100 watt and dual 100 watt models, it has the versatility to power from one to four loads. The 100 watt model has a single output of 3.8A at 24Vdc to deliver cost-efficient field power in a compact unit that requires minimal assembly. Dual 100 watt models have quad output of 7.6A at 24Vdc (3.8A max per pair). It eliminates need for splitters or additional wiring to power up to four loads, making it perfect for high-density power requirements such as large conveyor belts or automotive assembly lines.

Extreme environments found in industrial locations will compromise the performance of a standard power supply. This is why Emerson's power quality experts took every measure possible to make very make the IP67 SCP-X the most robust industrial-grade power supply on the market today. This extends from its shock-absorbing, self-sealed IP67 rated enclosure impervious to water, dust and corrosion, to an optimized thermal management layout that prevents overheating while doing away with bulky external fans or forced air. It will operate reliably in ambient temperatures of -40°C to 60°C for the single watt model and -20°C to 60°C for the dual watt. In addition, it keeps signal noise and electromagnetic interference (EMI) well below the limits required to ensure reliable data communications.

Design engineers will welcome the IP67 SCP-X's ability to be directly mounted on a machine. In addition to not requiring an enclosure or a fan, it minimizes cabling to power devices while offering the flexibility to mount in any orientation with no derating. Quick change connectors simplify connectivity for distributed I/O devices, as well as assembly/disassembly. Its compact footprint of 4.7" x 7" compares favorably to a traditional power supply enclosure measuring 16" x 14".

New IP67 SCP-X power supplies are immediately available. Both 100 watt and dual 100 watt models are backed by a five-year limited warranty, the longest in the industry. All models are certified to meet Class 2 requirements for power limiting.

Introducing the Areamaster Generation 2 LED Luminaires

Versatile, energy-efficient luminaires feature new optic designs for superior uniformity and coverage in hazardous industrial locations

ROSEMONT, IL,  USA, JANUARY 9, 2017 -- Retrofitting HID floodlights with new Areamaster Generation 2 LED floodlights from Emerson's Appleton brand will save companies upwards of 75% on energy costs, while virtually eliminating maintenance burdens and improving worker productivity by providing uniform, high-quality light.

The Areamaster Generation 2 represents a major upgrade from the original Areamaster LED introduced five years ago. Exceptionally versatile, this next generation luminaire now comes in a wider selection of beam patterns, color temperatures, and lumen outputs ranging from 9,000 to 38,000 lumens, allowing companies to cost-efficiently retrofit existing HID floods from 250W to 1500W, however diverse their lighting needs. Plus, it uses the same slip fitters and pole brackets as older Appleton HID floodlights so retrofits cost less and require fewer labor hours.

REDUCED MAINTENANCE
In harsh, hazardous locations -- such as an offshore oil rig or a wastewater treatment center-- it is potentially dangerous to expose maintenance personnel to the environment, especially when perched upon a tall ladder replacing a hard-to-reach component. The Areamaster Generation 2 LED virtually eliminates maintenance needs with upgrades that include a gasketed front wiring compartment, up to 10kV surge suppression for installations in Category C high-risk areas, and high-temperature silicone gaskets that prevent water ingress and corrosion. The patented thermal design ensures cool operation for a long, maintenance-free life and safe use in practically any Class I Division 2 or Class II hazardous location.

In addition, because the luminaire boasts an operational "on" time exceeding 60,000 hours, workers are not as frequently required to perform routine maintenance, unlike with an HID floodlight which can have a lifespan as brief as 3,000 hours. Replaceable LED drivers can extend luminaire life even beyond 60,000 hours. When run in an optimal environment of 25° C (77° F) the luminaries may last beyond 200,000 hours or approximately 22 years.

CUSTOMIZED LIGHTING SOLUTIONS
When light quality is diminished, work areas are inherently less safe. Poor lighting can cause eye strain and headaches, as well as a lack of employee focus. Fortunately, continuous light levels are a given with the Areamaster Generation 2 LED. A variety of available options allow engineers to create custom solutions that deliver targeted light for enhanced safety and productivity, even in extreme hot/cold temperature environments of -40° C to +65° C (-40° F to 149° F) and marine (salt water) environments.

Options include: a choice of either cooler 5000K or warmer 3000K color temperatures, as well as secondary optic options for NEMA 7x7, NEMA 7x6 (HID like) and NEMA 5x5 light distribution patterns to deliver lumens evenly and efficiently to floodlit areas without excess glare, hotspots, overspill, light pollution or wasted energy. Optic assemblies are fully gasketed to ensure board-level protection against dust and water ingress. There are also an assortment of mounting options, safety cables, guards and visors, along with replaceable drivers and lens covers. All lumen outputs are available for 120-277VAC or 347-480VAC.

BUILT TO LAST
Built for long-term reliability and extended luminaire life, Areamaster Generation 2 LED luminaires feature a copperfree aluminum diecast housing with architectural bronze polyester powder coat finish for exceptional corrosion resistance in the toughest environments. The luminaries are certified for Class I Division 2 and Class II hazardous locations and rated for use in NEC/CEC installations. High-temperature silicon gaskets and stainless steel bolts and accessories contribute to NEMA4X, IP66/IP67 and Marine ratings for use in harsh and corrosive environments.

The new Areamaster Generation 2 luminaries are backed by a five-year warranty. In addition, Areamaster Generational 2 luminaries purchased with a secondary optic and extra surge protection receive a ten-year warranty.
