Abrigo has integrated new solutions to its secondary packaging machines, based on the concept Modular Robotic System
The todays trends of food industry are oriented to a growing dynamicity. The products life cycle is getting shorter, the production lots smaller, and the variety packaging is a benchmark of marketing. For these reasons, for food companies its fundamental to have production lines which include high performance, efficiency and growing flexibility. Format changeover operations must be simple, quick, safe and without possibility of error. To match these requirements, Abrigo has integrated new solutions to its secondary packaging machines, based on the concept Modular Robotic System.
The MRS lines by Abrigo are modular systems in which different working stations, similarly built and including home-made robots or commercial ones, are equipped with customized devices which make them capable of performing different functions: box erecting, thermoforms denesting, filling, closing and quality checks. The last-born machines are systems which have to insert two types of packages of the same product, different in shape, size and weight, in display-packs made of tray plus cover-lid, which contains different numbers of units. On trays forming side, the magazines of blank cartons are replaceable without using tools, by mean of a wheeled-cart configuration and an automatic clamping system. The forming hopper has an automatic motorized adjustment, as well as the position of glue guns. In the filling station, the arriving packages are handled by a sorter of a new generation, named 3C. This solution, equipped with three brushless motors, overcomes the rigidity of the traditional dual-belt system, being capable of working on packages of different sizes and on different numbers of packages, without requiring any changeover operation.
The only part which has to be replaced is the robot tool, very small and light, because some formats have to be handled by vacuum cups and some others by mechanical gripping. In the sealing station, beside the magazine for blank cartons, replaceable as in the forming station, the robot tool includes automatic motorized adjustment, as well as all the tray indexing devices along the line. All the replaceable parts are equipped with sensors; so that, if on the touch screen panel the operator selects a work-cycle not compatible with the parts mounted on the line, the system cant be started and it shows the related alarm. The new MRS solutions by Abrigo are a further step towards flexible automation.
