Fette Compacting Showcases Continuous Manufacturing
At interpack 2026, Fette Compacting presents an integrated continuous manufacturing line for tablet production. The combination of the FE CPS dosing and mixing unit and the F30i double rotary press covers throughputs ranging from 5 to 400 kg per hour and can be utilized across the entire spectrum—from product development to large-scale series production. The system combines continuous direct compression with integrated process analytics, utilizing near-infrared sensors to monitor quality parameters in real time throughout the entire process.
The platform is built upon a unified technology architecture. Components such as tooling and rotors can be reused across different generations of machinery. This enables users to expand their existing production environments without having to completely revalidate their processes. By integrating powder handling directly into the line, the system achieves stable, segregation-free material transport, thereby enhancing reproducibility.
In addition to continuous manufacturing, the machine manufacturer will showcase a new containment solution designed for highly active pharmaceutical ingredients. The FE WiP system combines an isolator, a tablet press, and peripheral equipment into a single integrated unit. Automated workflows, reduced interface points, and optimized airflow management work together to minimize the risk of contamination. A closed product recirculation loop reduces product loss, while integrated particle monitoring facilitates the oversight of critical process parameters.
The system is engineered for applications with stringent requirements for personnel protection, enabling the processing of highly potent active ingredients up to the highest exposure control levels. Simultaneously, the design aims to minimize downtime during product changeovers and simplify cleaning procedures. Dr. Martin Schöler, Vice President of Technology at Fette, stated that it took the industry ten years to make containment safe. Now the industry needs another ten years to make it simple – this statement was two years ago. Today, the company considers this objective to be three-quarters of the way to completion.
Complementing its manufacturing lines, the company is presenting its concept for comprehensive process support—spanning from formulation development to production—in Düsseldorf. This encompasses development services, process analyses, and validations conducted under real-world production conditions. A new development center, featuring cleanroom capabilities, is set to consolidate these activities in the future.
